Build a block
How to build a content block — give it a title and type, add a link to your policy, and add text and images — then save it for reuse across modules.
Who does this article apply to? Organisation Managers of Ausmed Library™ (SCORM) customers.
A block is a single piece of your content that you add to a module — a policy link, a welcome message, a procedure, or a set of quiz questions. This article covers building a content block. For quiz blocks, see "Add quiz questions to a module".
Build a block- Click on the Customisation tab in the left hand menu.
- Click "Add block"
- Give the block a title. This will be displayed to staff when they complete it, so name it clearly — for example, "Manual Handling Policy" or "Induction Welcome".
- Choose a type. This labels what the block is: - Policy - Procedure - Welcome - Message - Other
- Add a link (optional). Paste the URL where your content lives — for example, a SharePoint link to your policy. Staff open the link from within the course.
- Add text and images (optional). Write the content staff will see. You can add rich text, images, numbered lists and hyperlinks. See below for adding an image best practices.
- Click Save Changes
Add an image (best practices)
Add images from within the text editor:
- In the editor toolbar, select the image button to open Image Properties.
- In the URL field, paste the web address of your image. The image needs to be hosted somewhere staff can reach — the same principle as your policy links.
- Add Alternative text so the image is accessible to screen readers and still makes sense if it doesn't load.
- Set the Width and Height to suit the page. Keep the aspect-ratio lock on so the image scales evenly and doesn't stretch.
- Optionally set Alignment, Border, and spacing (HSpace / VSpace).
- Select OK.
Tip: Resize or crop your image to the size you need before you add it. Oversized images can look stretched or blurry and can push the layout around. Size the image to roughly the width of the content area for the cleanest result.
Important — check images in a real SCORM package, not just the preview. The staff preview is a rough guide only. Before you roll a block out, download the SCORM file, upload it to your LMS, and view the module as a staff member would. Confirm your images display at the right size and aren't stretched. This is the reliable way to catch layout issues early.
What staff see
Staff see the block's content in the course flow, in the position you placed it (before or after the module). If you added a link, staff open it from the block.
Good to know- Links open your own content. Ausmed doesn't host or display the linked file — it opens wherever your policy lives. Make sure the link works for staff who aren't already signed in to that system (SharePoint and similar often require a login).
- A saved block is reusable. Any block you create in your Customisation Library can be added to other modules. Editing it updates every module it's in — see "Reuse and edit blocks across modules".
- Blocks can be versioned. When you update a block, the change flows through to every module using it.
