Everything you need to know about manually assigned learning.
What is manually assigned learning?
Manually assigning learning is one of two ways to assign learning to users through Ausmed. The other way is to assign learning automatically through a training plan.
Manually assigned learning may be optional or mandatory:- Optional means users can decide whether to complete the training, and it does not contribute to your organisation's learning compliance.
- Optional requirements are created when optional training is manually assigned or if it comes from an Optional Training Plan. Optional requirements contain information on who assigned the training, when it was assigned, and to whom.
- Mandatory means users are required to complete the learning, which counts towards your organisation's compliance.
- All mandatory training, whether assigned automatically through a training plan, or manually, results in compliance requirements. Compliance requirements are requests to users to complete mandatory training by a due date, and contain information on who is required to complete the training, what they need to complete, and the timeline for this.
When should you manually assign learning?
When you're thinking about whether to assign learning manually or automatically through a training plan, ask yourself whether completion is mandatory or optional training.
Mandatory
If you require users to complete the same mandatory training more than once, you should assign it automatically via a training plan. Automatically assigning training saves you time and ensures that the right training is delivered to the right people, reducing the risk of human error.
Otherwise, consider manually assigning if you need to assign:
- Out-of-cycle mandatory training in response to an event, such as a workplace incident or change in regulation.
- One-off refresher training in response to outdated knowledge or changes in practice.
Optional
If you would like to recommend learning to users, and completion is optional, you can choose between manual assignment or automatic assignment via an Optional Training Plan.
Some reasons to manually assign optional learning include:
- To suggest learning to staff to help them achieve certain learning or performance goals
- To motivate and encourage staff to continuously improve.
