[Guides for Managers](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/ausmed-competency?hsLang=en#guides-for-managers) # What happens when a Candidate is assessed as Not Yet Competent? ## Learn what happens when a Candidate is assessed as Not Yet Competent **Who is this article for?** - Users with access to Ausmed Competency™ and Ausmed Learn™ ### What happens automatically When an Assessor [assesses a candidate through Ausmed Assess](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/performing-an-assessment?hsLang=en) and records a Not Yet Competent (NYC) outcome, a different set of events happen automatically to the ones triggered by a Competent outcome: | Event | What it means | | --- | --- | | A competency outcome record is created in Ausmed Competency™ | This evidences that the assessment took place. | | The outcome is flagged on the [Competency Dashboard](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/how-to-access-your-competency-dashboard?hsLang=en) | This surfaces the result so managers can follow up. | ### Why no learning record is created Since the candidate hasn't demonstrated competence, there's nothing for Ausmed Learn™ to mark as complete. No learning record is created, and no learning requirements are affected — this is different to [what happens when a Candidate is assessed as Competent](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/what-happens-after-a-candidate-is-assessed-as-competent?hsLang=en). ### Following up on a NYC outcome Every Not Yet Competent outcome should carry a record of action taken in response  — using the [Action Log](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/action-log?hsLang=en). ### What the candidate sees The candidate is notified by email about their outcome and [can view their result in the staff portal](https://knowledge.organisations.ausmed.com.au/en/knowledge/can-staff-view-their-competency-assessment-results-and-assessor-feedback?hsLang=en), including any Assessor feedback.* * -
