🛠 Step-by-step instructions
⚠️ Before you begin: Confirm with an Administrator exactly who you need to assess and by when. The app does not currently display a list of staff who are due for assessment.
Step 1: Access the Ausmed Assess app
Get started by accessing the Ausmed Assess app. [Link: How to access Ausmed Assess]
When you log in, you will land on your Dashboard. This is your central hub for managing assessments:
-
In-Progress attempts: Any assessment you have started but not yet submitted appears here. Tap an item to resume exactly where you left off.
-
Recently added: The most recent competencies you have permission to assess appear here for quick access.
Step 2: Find a competency
To begin, locate the Competency you wish to assess. You can search by title using the Search bar at the top of the Dashboard or the Search icon in the bottom menu.
⚠️ Can’t find a competency? This usually means you don’t have permission to assess it. Please contact your Account Administrator for assistance.
Step 3: Start the assessment
Once you have located the competency, tap the title to open it.
-
Review the description, estimated time, job roles, purpose, and resources to ensure this is the correct assessment.
-
Tap Start new assessment to begin.
-
Search for and select the staff member(s) you are assessing.
Note: We recommend assessing one candidate at a time wherever possible. Individual assessments make it easier to observe performance, document specific behaviours and provide targeted feedback.
- Answer the required consent questions (e.g., confirming the candidate is ready) and tap Continue.
Step 4: Navigate the assessment
You are now in the main assessment view. As some assessments can be long, the app offers specific tools to help you move through the criteria efficiently:
-
Scroll: Simply swipe up and down to view criteria.
-
The Index Pane (≡): Tap the List Icon in the header to open a menu showing every section and criterion.
-
Jump to Criteria: Tap any item in the Index list to instantly scroll to that specific spot.
-
Track Progress: The Index updates in real-time, showing you which criteria are complete and which are pending.
Step 5: Mark criteria
Follow the instructions below based on whether you are assessing an individual or a group:
A. Marking an Individual
-
Select the outcome (e.g. Satisfactory / Not Yet Satisfactory) for each criterion.
-
Some criterion may include a checklist. Tick off these individual items to verify specific steps or responses were observed.
-
Tap the Add Comment icon to provide feedback per criterion where necessary.
B. Marking a group
-
Select the group outcome (e.g., Satisfactory / Not Yet Satisfactory) for each criterion. This applies the result to everyone in the attempt instantly.
-
If one or more candidates performed differently from the group:
-
Tap Edit group outcome.
-
Tap the dropdown next to a specific name to change their result (e.g., mark one person as Not Yet Satisfactory). The status will update to Mixed Result.
-
You can also add specific comments for individual candidates here.
-
-
While in the "Edit Group Outcome" view, you can add specific feedback comments for individual candidates before returning to the main screen.
Step 6: Save or discard (optional)
If you need to exit the assessment before finishing, open the Index Pane (≡) and scroll to the bottom footer buttons:
-
💾 Save and Quit: Saves the attempt as a draft. You can resume it later via the "In-Progress" list on your Dashboard without losing data.
-
🗑️ Discard and Close: This permanently deletes the attempt. If assessing a group, this wipes data for every candidate in that session.
Step 7: Review results
When ready to finish, access the Results Screen via the bottom of the Index Pane (≡) or by tapping Continue after the final criterion.
The system calculates the result automatically:
-
Competent: All criteria are marked Satisfactory (or Not Applicable).
-
Not Yet Competent: One or more criteria are marked Not Yet Satisfactory.
If you missed any criteria, the screen will highlight them—tap the item to jump back and complete it
Step 8: Confirm and submit
Once all questions are answered, the Agree and Finish button will turn green.
-
Add any final summary comments.
-
Tap Agree and Finish.
-
A confirmation screen will verify your submission.
-
You are now free to return to the Dashboard to begin another assessment.
❓What happens next?
-
Submitting the assessment creates a competency outcome record containing all the information you recorded. This record is instantly available for Administrators to view in their management portal.
-
Not Yet Competent outcomes are automatically flagged to Administrators on their dashboard to determine necessary next steps (e.g., additional training or reassessment).
